Hunt Partners appoints Koushik Sarkar as the President – West Asia at Omya India Pvt. Ltd.:
About the Company:
Omya, founded in 1884 by Gottfried Plüss-Staufer in Oftringen, Switzerland, is a leading global producer of industrial minerals, mainly fillers and pigments derived from calcium carbonate and dolomite, and a worldwide distributor of specialty chemicals. They have more than 175 plants in over 50 countries with a turnover of CHF 3.8 billion. Omya started operations in India in the year 2004 and have subsequently set up 4 plants here. In 2017, they had net sales amounting to USD 60 Million and aim to achieve USD 200 Million by 2026.
About the Candidate:
Koushik has 25 years of experience and is currently the President West Asiaat Omya India. Previously he was the President at Everest Industries based in New Delhi. He has a P&L responsibility for developing and executing the business strategy that would put the organization on a trajectory of accelerated growth.
Prior to this, he was the CEO and Managing Director- South Asia at USG Boral Building Products. He turned around the loss making USD 20 million business within 6 months and tripled revenues in 3 years to cross USD 60 million. Also at USG India, he was the Managing Director- India at USG India Limited (Gypsum Interior Solutions) where he started the India business for USG Inc.
Previously at Saint Gobain Construction Materials, he was the Regional Business Director- Asia (Gypsum Ceilings Business). He operated from Bangkok and provided strategic direction, accelerated growth, lowered variable cost and transformed profitability.
He was also the Global Marketing Leader for Saint Gobain Construction Materials. This role was based in France. He launched the Gyproc brand globally which became the world’s leading plasterboard brand in the next 3 years. Prior to that, he was the Director- Sales and Marketing at BPB India Gypsum Ltd which is now Saint Gobain Gyproc India Limited. He also had a long stint at ICI Paints India. His last role there was as the Project Head, Business Process Reengineering.
Koushik completed his MBA from IIM Bangalore and Bachelor of Engineering from IIT Kharagpur
